Okay, techies, here's my situation. I have a router in my basement hooked up to the cable modem.
I have a dell upstairs that connects to the router via a Dell TrueMobile 1180 Wireless USB thing-a-ma-bob. That works just fine too. It came with a disk, I installed it, bingo. Now i have a new computer, which isn't a dell (its an Alienware, if it matters). My plan was to simply put it in the old computers place.
So, I install the disk (I still have it) on the new computer (Note: Here, at the very end, it did give me a message about not being able to fully update to a post-Service Pack 1 computer, since mine is SP2. However, upon comparing the folder of installed software with that on my old computer, they are identical, so it shouldn't be the problem).
It won't work with my new computer. In fact, it doesn't even recognize it as a Wireless Device. It recognized it as a USB Device the first time I plugged it in, but I told it I would install the software myself and closed that window. Now, no matter which USB port I plug it into, it doesn't recognize the device at all, and I am unable to connect to my wireless router. Much sadness. I know I must be leaving things out so call me a newb and then ask your questions I have managed to get a few networks set up in my time but it always seems to be a huge pain, so assume that I am acting fairly blindly and don't take much for granted as far as my knowledge is concerned.
